Hamas is a Sunni Islamist movement with two main branches: a political bureau (decision-making, finance, outreach) and a military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. A Shura Council elects the leadership.

The group has ruled Gaza since 2007.

The Qassam Brigades include fighters and specialized units: rockets, drones, naval forces, Nukhba, and internal security (“al-Majd”).

The political and military tracks are distinct but tightly linked.

Today’s news: Hamas released a video showing two Israeli hostages, including Guy Gilboa-Dalal, driving in Gaza City. News outlets reported the fresh footage, dated late August.

It underscores the military wing’s role in propaganda and operations.
